The Project Engineer position is a highly responsible professional engineering job performed with limited supervision. The Project Engineer will design and supervise the construction and maintenance of roads, utilities, general construction, and capital improvement projects. They will also serve as a technical resource to other City departments on various aspects of projects.
This position operates with a schedule of 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, with a half day on Friday (7:30 am to 11:30 am). Scheduled hours have the potential to be flexible.
Responsibilities
- Assist in hiring, contracting, and managing design consultants for the preparation of design specifications, plans, cost estimates, and related work
- Perform a variety of field surveys, investigations, and compilations of engineering data
- Provide technical and administrative assistance to other project management and operating divisions
- Confer with management to keep them informed and make recommendations
- Perform reviews of hydraulic, roadway, utility, commercial site plan, residential subdivision, and other engineering designs
- Represent the Engineering Department at various City government meetings
- Respond to citizen complaints and requests
- Attend site visits and various group meetings
- Comply with applicable state, federal, and local laws, rules and regulations
- Enforce safety rules and encourage safety application for employees
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related technical field
- 5 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 4 years related management experience
- Oklahoma State Professional Engineer License
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Necessary Skills
- Strong written communication skills to write reports, policy/procedure manuals, and business correspondence
- Strong mathematical ability compute applications using advanced calculus, algebra, and statistical theory
- Knowledge of (and ability to apply):
- Modern methods and techniques of public works construction
- Modern, approved hydrology and hydraulic practices for urban and rural areas
- Principles and practices of planning
- Ability to hear and speak clearly in English to communicate, by telephone and face-to-face, within the confinement of a semi-noisy environment
- Willingness to use personal vehicle for City business
