SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position may have functional supervision over assigned personnel.
- Performs preventive and responsive maintenance on city buildings; inspects buildings to determine maintenance and repair needs.
- Performs scheduled maintenance on city buildings and related equipment.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems; replaces fixtures; repairs leaks; remodels bathrooms; installs pipes.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs electrical systems; replaces bulbs and ballasts; repairs receptacles; repairs light fixtures and fans; installs and repairs exterior lighting systems.
- Performs regular maintenance on the pool/splash pad, including cleaning, skimming debris, emptying and changing filters and any faulty equipment.
- Constructs, repairs, and maintains park signs, fences, bridges, playgrounds, and other structures.
- Maintains and repairs locks and doors.
- Performs carpentry construction and repair functions.
- Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
- Installs holiday decorations.
- Repairs roofs and other building features.
- Paints parking lots, tennis courts.
- Develops time and materials estimates for projects; acquires necessary parts and supplies.
- Performs related duties.
- Knowledge of facilities maintenance principles and practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position may have functional supervision over assigned personnel.
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to a high school diploma.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alabama for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
