The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Plumbing Inspector to perform building and construction technical plumbing inspection work in enforcing compliance with NC Plumbing Code, regulations and ordinances; works with developers, applicants, contractors, architects, engineers, and government agencies to maintain code requirements and resolve problems relating to code compliance.
SALARY INFORMATION
The starting salary for a Plumbing Inspector is $44,993.
Under the City of Fayetteville's Inspector Pay Plan, a Level II Plumbing Inspector is entitled to additional compensation of $7,500. A Level III Plumbing Inspector would be entitled to additional compensation of $15,000. The successful candidate may obtain additional supplemental compensation of $3,750 for a Level II certification in a secondary trade (Electrical, Mechanical or Building). Compensation is awarded AFTER the candidate has successfully obtained the certification(s).
- Examine plans and specifications to perform inspections related to any new construction, additions, alterations, and any other types of construction that requires a permit to determine compliance with the provisions of NC Plumbing Code, ordinances and regulations.
- Inspect existing buildings and premises for change of use, occupancy, or compliance with plumbing codes and ordinances.
- Inspect above ground and underground plumbing installations, sewer and water installations, and drain tile.
- Issue notices to comply concerning plumbing violations; maintain background records for possible legal actions.
- Issue stop works, corrections and occupancy documents that address various violations; maintain background records for possible legal actions.
- Confer with architects, engineers, contractors, builders and the public in the field, via phone texting, and email; explain and interpret plumbing requirements and minimum standards.
- Maintain inspection results regarding inspections activities and findings for each project permitted within the permitting system.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public, contractors, architects, engineers, and homeowners regarding plumbing codes and related issues; investigate complaints and recommend options based on the NC Plumbing Code minimum standards as necessary to resolve complaints.
- Confer with inspectors and City staff to ensure consistent code and ordinance enforcement.
- Enter inspection results in the permitting system as soon as possible from the time the inspection has been completed so homeowners, contractors, engineers, and others are aware of any violation of the NC Plumbing Code and ordinances or the approval of the inspection.

Experience:
A probationary Level I plumbing inspection certificate with two years of experience inspecting plumbing systems, or be a Licensed Plumbing Contractor, or two years of construction experience while working under a Licensed Plumbing Contractor.
Training:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in the plumbing trade.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
North Carolina Plumbing Standard Inspection Level I, II, or III certification. Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred:
Another North Carolina Inspector Level I, II, or III certification in a secondary trade; such as Mechanical certification.

From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
