2023 Internship:
Under the direction and supervision of the Zoning Administrator/City Planner, assists in neighborhood and community planning projects, planning research and data collection.
This position provides a graduate or college student interested in public sector planning, zoning, and local government the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by first-hand observation of the operation and organization of a local government planning/zoning department.
Intern Hours & Expectations:
Preferably we would like this position to work approximately 20 hours/week into the fall.
Applicants should be self-motivated, thorough, disciplined, and exhibit an interest in learning more about local government planning/zoning department. Our ideal candidate can work well both as part of a team and independently.
Intern Functions:- Assist in neighborhood, community, and transportation planning.
- Conduct planning research, statistical data collection, and spatial / data analysis.
- Prepare maps, charts, graphics, and technical reports.
- Assist staff with special planning projects related to the Healthy Neighborhoods Initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with City staff across multiple departments and communicate with members of the public, elected officials, and the Planning Commission.
- Support public engagement and community-building activities.
- Perform other such duties as assigned.
Intern Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years within a course of study related to planning, urban geography, or related field.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and evidence of vehicle insurance for the duration of the appointment.
- Preference for fluency in a language in addition to English.

Physical Demands: Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree or requires sitting most of the time.
Work Environment: Inside work is 90% of the time. Outside work is 10% of the time. Exposure to hazards or risk of bodily injury, moderate noise and dust are seldom. Exposure to heat/cold extremes and temperature changes occasionally.
