What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sanitation Worker/Custodian position at City of Foley?
Under general supervision this position sweeps, mops, and cleans bathrooms, offices and kitchens in Public Works building. Picks up and empties trash from offices and kitchen. Dusts furniture, ledges, and other fixtures. Cleans walls and doors as needed. Cleans walkways as needed. Cleans outside of city building, which includes picking up trash, washing windows, mowing lawn, and pressure washing as needed. Notifies supervisor when supplies are needed. Reports to the Residential Sanitation Supervisor.
High School Diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Special Qualifications:
Valid Driver’s License.The work is heavy work which requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Maintains custodial care of the Public Works facility
- Cleans kitchen, break areas and restrooms
- Cleans all windows, ledges, and baseboards in Public Works facility
- Picks up trash and recycling from inside and outside of Public Works facility
- Picks up bulk items throughout the City of Foley
- Monitors for and picks up road kill throughout the City and takes to pit for disposal.
- Safely performs manual work under adverse weather conditions
- Monitors debris for hazardous waste ensuring no paint, chemicals, or tires are included in pile when picking up bulk debris and alerts Public Works office if hazardous waste is found.
- Assembles trash cans
- Picks up waste cooking oil from drop off locations and consolidates in tank at office
- Refers to work orders, written and spoken instructions
- Operates a variety of equipment (truck, gator, hot shot, etc)
- Operates manual mower & blower to keep lot free of debris
- Performs other duties as assigned
