JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the removal of residential solid waste and recycling from Municipal Streets. Works as part of a crew assigned to a collection vehicle under the direction of a Sanitation Worker III/Driver Operator on a scheduled route to pick up curbside garbage, trash and recyclables. Is able to operate/drive vehicles that do not require a CDL license for the pick-up of bulk item trash, spraying of mosquitos, etc. assists in yard debris, limb removal and street sweeping. Assembles, repairs and delivers garbage cans and recycle bins. Maintains sidewalks, bike paths, curbs, gutters and drains by edging and using zero turn blowers, to remove sediment, debris and leaves. Operates self-propelled paint sprayers for marking and laying out parking areas and roadway striping. Occasionally picks up litter and/or dead animals in streets and on Right-of-Ways. Performs other assigned duties which may include weed eating, spraying sidewalks, disassembling damaged cans, performing maintenance on trucks, responding to notes from customers, etc. Reports to the Residential Sanitation Supervisor.JOB FUNCTIONS

High School Diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of experience in a job related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

- Picks up residential garbage and recycling materials.
- Picks up residential bulk items.
- Assists residential customers with special needs with retrieval of residential waste.
- Safely performs manual work under adverse weather conditions.
- Sprays for mosquitos and mixes chemicals.
- Picks up road kill throughout the City.
- Operates blowers on sweeper truck to sweep streets.
- Works with other departments in the City for various cleanup activities.
- Monitors debris for hazardous waste.
- Assembles trash cans.
- Assists construction crews and other crews, as needed.
- Operates industrial paint sprayer to assists with painting.
- Assists with set up for parades and specials events.
- Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles.
- Receives and/or reviews information such as call tickets, written/spoken instructions, maps, basic OSHA and environmental safety regulations and procedures, personnel, policy and related information.
- Prepares and generates information such as garbage can log, mosquito spraying log and equipment maintenance log.
- Refers to call tickets, written/spoken instructions, maps, basic OSHA and environmental safety regulations and procedures, personnel, policy and related information.
- Interacts and communicates with a wide variety of groups and individuals to include the general public, Department Heads, Supervisors, Driver Operator II, landfill personnel, fellow employees, and office staff.
- Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment to include mosquito truck, truck pulling flatbed, hopper, fork lift and a Gator.
- Utilizes a variety of tool and/or sets of tools such as power drills, grease gun, pressure washer, weed eaters, edger, trimmers, lawn mowers and blowers.
- Uses a forklift to move chemicals, removes cans and oil.
- Weed eats sidewalks and sprays weeds.
- Uses chainsaw and trims specific alleys.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
