JOB
Under supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled assignments in the construction, installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of City Public Sanitary Sewer System (PSSS), pumping facilities, sanitary sewer pipelines, tanks, and associated appurtenances.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Performs all duties associated with wastewater collection, including installing, connecting, relocating, adjusting, testing, maintaining, televising, repairing, and replacing wastewater mains, pumps, and other equipment; cutting and fitting pipes; complies with department policies and procedures.Safely operates equipment and tools used at work site; places traffic control flags, signs, and cones to direct traffic around work sites, and operates and maintains hand and power tools.Performs routine maintenance and repair on pump stations, manholes, cleanouts, pumps, motors, vehicles, equipment, and tools; ensures quality control and restoration.Responds tactfully to questions and comments from the public and delegates to appropriate staff.On-call for emergency situationsPerforms other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No direct supervision exercised.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Knowledge of: Wastewater reclamation operation, including piping, sources of supply, disinfection, and the operational principles of pumps and motors.Current principles, practices and regulations related to wastewater systems.Wastewater systems mathematics, including wastewater terms and definitions, wastewater measurements, wastewater pressure, formulas, and units and conversion factors.Proper methods and techniques used in cleaning, repairing, and maintaining wastewater systems equipment.Geography, street locations and wastewater system locations.The proper use and care of common hand and power tools.Safety principles related to traffic control, trenching and shoring, and personnel safety.Occupational hazards and safety precautions.TCEQ standards and policies for wastewater systems.City policies and procedures. Skill in: Operating wastewater systems machinery in a safe and capable manner. Obtaining and maintaining certification as a wastewater operator.Utilizing public relations techniques in responding to inquiries and complaints.Following oral and written instructions. Operating and working around machinery, heavy equipment and moving equipment.Installing, repairing, and maintaining of wastewater systems equipment.Recognize unusual or dangerous operating conditions and make sound judgments within established guidelines.Coordinating with public offices for scheduling, repair, and operation of wastewater utility services.
