What are the responsibilities and job description for the FULL TIME GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER II position at City of Gretna?

The City of Gretna, Nebraska, is looking to hire a General Maintenance Worker II. This position is based on 40 hours per week. This position will have an emphasis working in either the street or utilities department but also could be performing various operational and maintenance, repair, and construction activities for the city streets, parks, and pool. Employee will be required to perform duties on an on-call basis, as needed.

Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, and it is preferred for you to have a valid Commercial Driver License (Class B CDL) or acquire license within specified timeframe established by employer. Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and must also acquire certain water and sewer licenses within a time frame established by the employer. This position will be in direct contact with the Public Works Director on a daily basis in regards to the work schedule of the day. Some of these duties are as follows but not limited too:

 Assists in the maintenance and repair of the city streets, including but not limited to marking pavements, painting curbs, crosswalks, signs, posts and street lines, setting up barricades and directing traffic as needed.

 Assists in the appropriate maintenance program for the city water/wastewater systems for both preventative and proper corrective maintenance including maintaining records on each piece of equipment, periodic inspections and maintenance of electrical components, and proper and timely cleaning of structures and components.

 Assists with upkeep of all city buildings and general maintenance and repair duties including but not limited to painting, replacing light bulbs and switches, changing flags, hanging pictures, picking up trash: schedules additional building maintenance as requested by the City Maintenance Supervisor.

 Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the city parks, facilities, athletic fields and recreational areas through the upkeep and maintenance of the grounds surrounding city buildings, in parks, and other areas through various activities including but not limited to mowing and trimming grounds, landscaping, trimming of trees, bushes, shrubs, etc.; clearing snow or debris from city streets, walkways, park paths, trails, etc.

 Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment including but not limited to sprayers, push mowers, riding mowers, weed eaters, trimmers, fertilizer spreaders, sprinklers, chainsaws, front-end loaders, etc., in the performance of job duties.

 Refers citizen complaints to the Public Works Director for resolution.

 Establishes and maintains positive public relations with the general public, other employees, and governmental agencies and municipal officials.

Performs other duties as assigned.
