What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Pool Manager position at City of Kerrville?

Assist in the operation and management of city-owned pool, including supervision of staff and programs as assigned. In the absence of a Pool Manager, this position will ensure the daily safety, comfort, and satisfaction of all customers using the city's aquatic facility.This information is intended to be descriptive of the principal duties and responsibilities of the position.  The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent. 
  1. Monitor and maintain swimmer safety at all times by preventing accidents and responding quickly to emergency situations.
  2. Supervise assigned personnel.  Acting Manager in the absence of Pool Manager.
  3. Assist Recreation Manager and Pool Manager in implementing and following the comprehensive Aquatic Risk Management Program as required by Ellis & Associates and the facility’s Emergency Action Plan. 
  4. Maintain accurate accountability for cash drawers and cash deposits.
  5. Maintain records as required by the Parks and Recreation Department, City, County, and State.
  6. Maintain general appearance, cleanliness, and perform general housekeeping of assigned area
  7. Maintain water safety equipment.
  8. Perform basic life support skills as necessary.
  9. Assist in managing inventory of pool supplies, first-aid equipment, and rescue equipment.
  10. Assists in conducting or leads in-service training for staff.
  11. Perform chemical readings on pH and chlorine levels and checks water temperature as scheduled.
  12. Assist with assigned recreation / aquatics programs and special events.
  13. Must answer phone calls and have an understanding of general facility programming and operations.
  14. Respond to requests and inquiries from the public.
  15. Assist with or lead physical conditioning of entire staff, including self.
  16. Assist the Recreation Manager in decision-making concerning facility closures during adverse conditions.
  17. Must be prepared to fill in at any and all positions at the pool, as needed.
  18. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
  • Excellent swimming skills.
  • Good supervisory, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and maintain records, implement oral and written policies and maintain good working relationships with people of all ages.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from supervisor.
  • Ability to give verbal and physical instructions to swim lesson students.
  • Ability to work with money; adding; subtracting; counting.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and provide technical assistance to assigned staff and other city staff.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Some college preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
  • 20/25 vision or better with corrective lenses.
  • Jeff Ellis & Associates ILTP (International Lifeguard Training Program) License-training provided on-site at the applicant’s expense.
  • Must have completed at least one season as Lifeguard.
  • Experience in water safety.
  • Experience in public relations.
  • Experience planning and conducting recreational activities preferred.
  • Experience in supervising others preferred.
  • Jeff Ellis Swim Instructor certification preferred.
