The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Custodial Worker/Custodian.
This is a Full-Time, Non-Exempt position with an hourly range of $15.00 – $18.75. This position is part of the Public Employees (PEU) collective bargaining agreement. The individual in this position will work out of the Facilities Department located at 1749 3rd Ave S, Lake Worth Beach, FL 33460.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for the routine manual labor and the custodial care of public buildings and/or premises. The successful candidate is at ease working in partnership with other team members in a high volume, fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Lake Worth Beach Facility Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Cleaning, minor maintenance work in buildings and adjacent grounds.
- Mops, waxes, and buffs floors, waxes and dusts furniture, cleans lavatories and replaces supplies; delivers suppliers and runs errands.
- Disposes of trash, waste paper, washes window, replaces light bulbs and makes simple repairs to buildings and equipment.
- Repairs and adjusts cleaning equipment. Reports damage to structure(s) and equipment that may require repair.
- Moves furniture and equipment in preparation for events.
- Performs related event staging work as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB STANDARDS:
An employee in this class is responsible for the custodial services of all City facilities. All work is performed according to the practices and procedures of the Public Works Department and the City of Lake Worth Beach.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to learn the materials, methods and practices used in cleaning operations.
- Ability to learn the operation and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, pressure washers and other janitorial equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
- Sufficient physical strength to work at custodial tasks.
- Assists in moving files, heavy desks and other furniture. Assists in moving offices to various sections of City buildings. Assembles and disassembles various pieces of office equipment such as desks, chairs, file cabinets, etc., in the performance of these duties.
- Dependability is extremely important to this position.
- Effective verbal communication skills required as this role interacts with the public, caterers, and other vendors.
EQUIPMENT:
Operates mechanical equipment in the maintenance of buildings and premises, such as waxers, polishers, vacuum cleaners, trimmers, pressure washers, and etc.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma /GED. Experience in commercial janitorial work. A comparable amount of training or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively share information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Prior experience equal to two (2) years in public building/ facilities support or maintenance capacity. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must be willing to work varying hours, first, second and/or third shift and/or weekends.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works inside in an air-conditioned office environment as well as outdoors in varying and changing weather conditions.
