What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Relations Specialist position at City of Lancaster, Texas?
Works as a liaison between the City organization, Chamber of Commerce, Lancaster ISD, the media, and community affairs organizations. Promotes community awareness through established programs and organizations. Additionally, responsible for grant writing, award applications, and coordinating the community events application process.
- Normal business operations are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, the hours of the position will vary depending on community events.
- Establish contacts and effective relationships with members of the community through community groups/organizations churches, businesses, LISD, local community colleges, universities, and community partners.
- Interacts with local organizations, the public, and the City staff with diplomacy, tact and discretion. Acts in a civil, respectful manner at all times to management, co-workers, community members and others.
- Responsible for public relations and distributing publicity relative to community activities and the City.
- Assists with community awareness programs.
- Researches and pursues grants.
- Assists in coordinating and setting up the annual civic leadership academy.
- Assists in coordinating and setting up special events such as parades, 4th of July fireworks celebration, and other City sponsored events.
- Coordinate with the City Manager’s Office to assist in problem areas identified through community contact and develop strategies and plans to address those issues.
- Coordinate activities designed to provide city employees, local residents, and area media with current information regarding all aspects of city operations and services.
- Promote and coordinate city events using prepared marketing materials, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.
- Attend and represent the City at community functions, community meetings, civic organizations, and governmental groups; prepare and present presentations regarding assigned public education programs.
- Support preparing for City Council town hall meetings.
- Assist in gathering content from departments or community for newsletters (weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
- Other duties may be assigned.

Bachelor’s Degree preferred; one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver’s license.
