About the Office:
The Lancaster County Attorney’s Office is comprised of 40 attorneys serving in our office’s four divisions. The Criminal Division prosecutes felony and misdemeanor crimes under Nebraska law. The Juvenile Division prosecutes cases involving children who are neglected, dependent, delinquent or in need of special supervision. The Child Support Division assists in the establishment and collection of child support. Finally, the Civil Division advises county agencies and defends suits brought against the County.
Position:
The Office is seeking an attorney to serve as a Deputy County Attorney. This attorney will initially serve in the office’s Civil Division but could transition to another assignment in the future depending upon applicant’s experience and the office’s need.
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree and be, or will soon be, duly licensed and authorized to practice as an attorney under the laws of Nebraska.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
Applicants should demonstrate the following: ability to quickly analyze and precisely articulate the critical issues in a case; superior oral and written communication skills; strong research skills; good judgment; ability to develop courtroom skills; a capacity to function, with minimal guidance, in a demanding environment; and exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, paralegals, support staff and outside agencies.
Applicants will be expected to do their own legal research and writing and will be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. Applicants should be able to demonstrate computer literacy skills to include legal research, electronic e-mail, word processing systems, and visual presentation software.
The ideal candidate will have some familiarity with Nebraska civil procedure, civil litigation, inheritance tax, and/or tax foreclosures; and will demonstrate the skills necessary to eventually handle complex cases from initial investigation through trial.
Compensation and Benefits:
As of August of 2024, the pay range for new Deputy County Attorneys, an “ATTORNEY I,” is $77,342 (Step 1) to $99,070 (Step 8), depending on years of relevant experience. Presently, Deputy County Attorneys who move to “ATTORNEY II” status have a salary range of $102,500 up to $145,000.

Salary : $80,823 - $103,528
