This intermediate level position performs preventative and corrective maintenance and repairs on all city-owned and operated vehicles and equipment. This classification is distinguished from the position of Auto Mechanic I by the additional skills and experience required. Reports to the Fleet Supervisor.
- Performs preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all City-owned and operated vehicles, medium- and heavy-weight trucks and equipment.
- Assists in ensuring mechanics' compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards of safety and quality.
- Assists in ensuring garage equipment is in proper and safe working condition. Maintains a clean and neat shop environment.
- Maintains records of all maintenance work performed.
- Operates and/or maintains a vehicle, mechanic's tools, diagnostic equipment, gas analyzer, etc.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED and 6 six years of experience in auto mechanical maintenance and repair work; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must possess (or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire) ASE refrigerant recovery certification, gas analyzer certification.
- Must possess (or be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire) a valid Florida Class B CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires moderate physical effort including lifting up to 50 pounds. May require frequent crouching, kneeling, bending, and stooping. Frequent periods of standing or walking may be required.
