Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor, the Recreation Program Coordinator shall provide direction and oversight for all programs, facilities and activities. The Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive athletic program for all age groups, while interacting with all coaches, officials, athletes, and general public. The Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for providing proper attention to health, happiness, discipline, and safety of all participants in the program.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Advocates building organizational culture through aligning core values including Teamwork, Respect, Accountability, Innovation, Leadership, and Superior Service.
  • To provide direction and oversight for all athletic programs and activities. Supervise the control, issuance and maintenance of all athletic equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate facility schedule with the Program Supervisor.
  • Performs opening and closing duties as scheduled. Maintains a clean facility throughout scheduled shift.
  • Attends meetings when called upon for sports and leagues in which the program participates.
  • Greets the general public and answers questions; responds to inquiries from employees, customers, and others and refers, when necessary, to appropriate staff.
  • To supervise coaches and officials.
  • Assist the Program Supervisor in developing and monitoring athletic budgets and revenues, compile data, complete reports, and maintain records for all of the athletic programs.
  • To implement and promote athletic programs, including the recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers and interns.
  • Completes any and all necessary paperwork such as inventory sheets, incident reports and daily reports.
  • Coordinate with other organizations and associations as needed to implement programs and activities.
  • Accompany participants either locally or out of town in conjunction with assigned programs or events.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment and supplies that apply to the athletic programs and events.
  • Ensure that the programs, activities, facilities and equipment follow all appropriate safety rules and regulations.
  • Creates a welcoming, caring, and professional environment for all children, parents, and staff.
  • Provides direction and oversight for all programs and activities. Supervise the control, issuance and maintenance of all equipment and facilities.
  • Coordinate with other organizations and associations as needed to implement programs and activities.
  • Accompany participants either locally or out of town in conjunction with assigned programs or events.
  • Maintain an inventory of all equipment and supplies that apply to the programs and events.
  • Handles additional tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
  • Knowledge of various athletic programs, recreational programs, special events, facility safety, facility development, equipment safety, operating budgets, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, websites, social media and point of sales systems.
  • Ability to motivate and provide encouragement for participation in athletic programs; implement multi-faceted athletic program; identify community athletic needs and recommending programs to fulfill them; administer first aid for minor injuries and exercise sound independent judgment with general policy guidelines.
  • Ability to arrive on time as scheduled. Provide excellent customer service by being friendly, tactful, courteous and by maintain an alert and professional posture at all times. Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times as to both dress.
  • Ability to be detailed-oriented and organized to manage all aspects of an athletic program. Written and verbal communication skills are important to interact with a variety of people ranging from athletic participants, coaches, officials and the general public.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines. Must be flexible and capable of multi-tasking since many of the actions required to manage an athletic program must be arranged concurrently.
  • Ability to pass a standard background check, pass a physical exam and pass a standard drug screening.
  • Ability to maintain or acquire a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a certification in CPR and first aid.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Two years of relevant recreational sports programming preferred.
One year of recreational sports supervision preferred.

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to walk, stand and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, twist, grasp and make repetitive hand movement in performance of daily duties, to climb heights on ladders, to lift, carry, push and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles and verbally communicate to exchange information.
