General Description
Under the direction of the Metering and Revenue Asset Manager or assigned supervisor, is responsible for the maintenance, installation, removal, troubleshooting and customer inquiries in the field of NPU"s electric and metering assets. Meter Tech I"s are limited to 24 months in the position to demonstrate the skills required of a Meter Technician II. If not recommended for promotion by the promotion panel prior to the expiration of the time limit, the Meter Technician I will be assigned to another appropriate position, if available; otherwise the Meter Technician I will be subject to lay off with full lay off benefits. Promotions will be made per matrix and/or approval of the promotion panel. Duties & Responsibilities
Works directly with assigned personnel in monitoring the health and device performance of the metering infrastructure including but not limited to programming of all meters.
Reads and test all NPU"s metering assets as required to meet the needs of customers, ensuring timely collection of meter data.
Checks meter installations for wiring, or meter malfunctions, and reports defects to assigned supervisor when detected.
Reviews assigned data integrity reports including but not limited to high/low consumption, zero readings, vacant location consumption, estimated reading, and skipped readings.
Generates and maintains records, documentations and files for all NPU"s metering assets including but not limited to AMI infrastructure, utility services and systems.
Installs, disconnects, maintains all electric meters and AMI equipment, including but not limited to CT"s and PT"s systems.
Handles customer"s account inquiries and assists other team members in doing the same.
Handles collection of past-due accounts.
Maintains records of meter readings and computes consumption.
Checks meter readings and installations for possible tampering or theft and reports findings to a supervisor.
Ability to obtain and maintain proper OQ"s.
OTHER RELATED DUTIES
Be available nights and weekends occasionally to provide support for customers.
Participate actively in the NPU occupational health and safety program and promote safe practices for all NPU workers.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Associates degree in a related technical field with two years experience in electric or natural gas OR Graduation from a technical school in a related field with two years experience electric or natural gas OR Four years experience in electric or gas field in lieu of education OR Successful completion of the Apprentice Meter Technician matrix.

Experience in the various physical tasks including troubleshooting, testing and repairing gas and/or electric systems. Must possess a valid Driver"s License and operate a motor vehicle. Experience in the handling of customer concerns calmly and effectively.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Basic understanding of the properties of natural gas, water, wastewater and electricity.
Understanding of service pricing principles and utility billing practices and procedures.
Knowledge of and ability to apply the National Electric Code (NEC).
Ability to read, understand and explain natural gas, water, wastewater and electric metering.
Ability to continue study of metering; particularly as applied to electrical, natural gas, water and wastewater systems to obtain Meter Technician II status.
Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work performed.
Demonstrated aptitude for learning and keeping up-to-date with rapidly changing technical information.
Basic understanding of the Automated Metering Infrastructure.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with NPU employees at all levels, customers, suppliers, and relevant external contacts.
Ability to operate within established policies, practices, and regulations.
Ability to operate personal computers and software, with minimal clerical support.
Ability to operate under pressure and not get easily frustrated.
Ability to instill confidence by responding to the customers and fellow employees in a prompt, respectful, courteous and informative manner.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver"s license.

Hand/finger dexterity: Constantly in performing computer operations.

Able to perform physical activities relating to inspection of meters, AMI equipment and other field related tasks.
Important Information
In order to be considered, applicants must demonstrate on their application they meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
You must reside within the State of Connecticut, 60 miles from Norwich within one year of appointment.
Examination will consist of 100% written.
