General Description
Under the direction of the Metering and Revenue Asset Manager or assigned supervisor, Meter Technician II is responsible for the maintenance, installation, removal, troubleshooting and customer inquiries of all of NPU"s Metering Assets. Duties & Responsibilities
Works directly with the Metering and Asset Manager in monitoring the health and device performance of the AMI infrastructure, including but not limited to programming, installation and maintenance of all metering related equipment.

Generates and maintains records and reports, documentations and files for all NPU"s metering assets including but not limited to AMI infrastructure, utility services and systems.

Perform all the duties of an Apprentice Technician, Meter Technician I as required to meet the needs of customers and ensure timely collection of meter data.

Handles customer"s account inquiries and assists other team members in doing the same.

Reviews assigned data integrity reports including but not limited to high/low consumption, zero readings, vacant location consumption, estimated reading and skipped readings.

Checks meter installations for plumbing, wiring, or meter malfunctions, and reports defects to assigned supervisor when detected.

Checks meter readings and installations for possible tampering or theft and reports findings to a supervisor.

Deactivates and activates all NPU"s metering assets.

Lights natural gas heating, cooking, and other miscellaneous appliances.

Installs, disconnects, removes and maintains all AMI equipment and metering assets, including but limited to CT"s and PT"s.

Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary OQ"s.

Ability to operate within the NPU Natural Gas O&M policies.

Must be able to perform the duties of a Meter Technician I and AMI System Specialist.

Be available nights and weekends occasionally to provide support for customers.

Participate actively in the NPU occupational health and safety program and promote safe practices for all NPU workers.

Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications
Associates degree in a related technical field with four years" experience in electric or natural gas OR graduation from a technical school in a related field with four years" experience in electric or natural gas OR six years" experience in electric and gas field in lieu of education OR successful completion of the Meter Technician I matrix.

Mechanical knowledge of gas, electric, and water and waste water meters.

G2 license preferred.

Ability to interpret and carry out State and Municipal Regulations.

Must possess the ability to show good judgement in making decisions as it pertains to State, Municipal, or Department policies.

Must possess a valid State of Connecticut Driver"s License. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Advanced understanding of the properties of natural gas, water, and electricity and ability to read, understand and explain gas, water, and electric safety and public health codes.

Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work performed.

Demonstrated aptitude for learning and keeping up-to-date with rapidly changing technical information.

Experience in the assistance of various physical tasks including troubleshooting, testing and repairing meters, meter accessories and regulators.

Ability to understand Automated Metering Infrastructure.

Understanding of service pricing principles and utility billing practices and procedures.

Ability to motivate personnel in a fast changing environment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with NPU employees at all levels, customers, suppliers, and relevant external contacts.

Knowledge of and ability to apply the National Electric Code (NEC).

Demonstrated ability to operate within established policies, practices, and regulations.

Ability to operate personal computers and software, with minimal clerical support.

Ability to operate under pressure and not get easily frustrated.

Ability to instill confidence by responding to the customers and fellow employees in a prompt, respectful, courteous and informative manner.

Experience in the handling of customer concerns calmly and effectively.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver"s license. Physical Requirements

In order to be considered, applicants must demonstrate on their application they meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

You must reside within the State of Connecticut, 60 miles from Norwich within one year of appointment.
