SEASONAL Public Service Worker

JOB TITLE:

Public Service Worker - SEASONAL

Hourly Seasonal Non-Union

DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:

Department of Public Works

JOB SUMMARY:

This position performs a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, manual labor in functions of water & sewer, parks & forestry, street maintenance and repair. Employees in this position may be assigned to any division of the Department of Public Works.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Operation of a variety of power tools, including mowers, blowers, chippers, trimmers, etc.
• Lawn and landscape maintenance including cutting and edging grass, planting, watering and care for trees shrubs and flowers
• Maintains accurate work records, time sheets and other forms of data

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

• Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license.
• Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pound loads
• Must be able to work outdoors in extreme temperatures
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, grease, fuel, chemicals and lubricants
• Must be able to stoop, bend
• Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
• Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions
• Knowledge of use of equipment and tools used in Public Works practices

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

• Valid, unrestricted Driver's License
• Must have a high school diploma or GED

SALARY RANGE:

This is a seasonal position with pay rate of $15.00 per hour, with no benefits. As the City of Oak Park is a designated Seasonal Employer, the position will run from May to November.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outdoors. The employee must also be able to fulfill the physical requirements below:

• Must be able to work outdoors in extreme temperatures
• Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, grease, fuel, chemicals and lubricants
• Must be able to stoop, bend
• Must be able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time
• Ability to understand and follow both written and oral instructions
