The Orange Police Department is looking for applicants who are flexible enough to handle the challenging responsibilities of a modern police officer.
The City of Orange is a changing, growing, thriving city which is constantly improving services for all its citizens, offering all the opportunities of a small town. Orange is situated at the extreme eastern boundary of Texas on the Sabine River, and is close enough to the Gulf of Mexico to give it many of the aspects of a coastal city.
Orange is the county seat of Orange County and is heavily industrialized by the oil/chemical and forest industry.
Qualifications
Applicant must be a US Citizen between the ages of 21 and 45. Applicants must provide a high school diploma or GED. Applicants weight must be in proportion to height and they must have a minimum vision of 20/70 or better in both eyes correctable to 20/20. Applicants must not be color blind. No criminal history and no use of illegal drugs. Applicant must be able to pass a polygraph, psychological, and physical examination. Any type of discharge other than Honorable Discharge will not be accepted. A complete physical examination will be required. Persons with high blood pressure, disease of any vital organ, back or nerve, or persons who do not possess normal hearing will not be accepted. Applicant must have a good driving record and not addicted to barbiturates or narcotics. Applicant must not have been convicted of a felony or any crime involving moral turpitude, or have any pending against. The City of Orange is required to conduct a background investigation, polygraph, psychological and physical examination.
Miscellaneous Information
Orange Police Officers receive 11 holidays, 15 sick days, and 10 to 30 days of vacation per year depending upon length of service. Up to 2 weeks summer camp military leave with pay is available each year for those who have not satisfied their military obligation. All Orange Police Officers enjoy the job security of State Civil Service. The City of Orange pays 100% of employees' hospital, dental, and life insurance, and it is extended to dependents at reasonable rates. Basic uniforms and equipment are furnished to each police officer. Orange Police Officers are required to work a 12-hour shift schedule with time and one-half for overtime. Police Officers are compensated for off-duty court attendance. All police officers receive longevity at the rate of $4 per month for each year of service in addition to their salary.
