Neill Public Library is looking for an innovative, collaborative, and highly motivated library professional to join our Technical Services department! The Library Technician- Technical Services is instrumental in supporting the library’s mission of access to information, with an emphasis on copy and original cataloging, materials processing, and materials finishing. Additionally, the Library Technician is expected to have a strong familiarity with the library’s integrated software system, and general knowledge of cataloging standards and procedures. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, and possess superior communication skills. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides a variety of services in the area of technical services including: Reviews and verifies the accuracy of bibliographic and authority records and all materials added to the collection; generates collection development and circulation reports; facilitates weeding and recycling of donated and/or withdrawn materials; processes and performs original cataloging; maintains cataloging authority files to insure clean, correct cataloging lists; maintains some special collections; supervises temporary and volunteer technical services staff; coordinates technical service activities with other library divisions; assists public with circulation services; trains and directs the daily activities of staff performing binding, mending and finishing work.
Serves as back-up to the Library Supervisor- Technical Services. Trains other library staff; participates in hiring and selection process of library staff; supervises staff and/or volunteers on a regular or sporadic basis; participates in staff meetings or other planning sessions, performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
(Persons applying for a position of this class should have any combination of the following experience and training.)
A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred with two years of part-time work experience dealing with the public or substituting successful completion of course work or training in office, educational, or library practices and principles for up to six months of the experience; at least six months of part-time library or teaching experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Supervisory experience is preferred.
