The City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Maintenance and Operations Crew Supervisor, Senior position in the Wastewater Collections Division. The selected candidate will serve as a supervisor. This position plans, organizes and directs the work of city employees in city sanitary sewer and storm water maintenance, repair, and operational programs; supervises designated staff within the Wastewater Collections Division.

- Supervising Crew Chief, Equipment Operators and Pipeline Technicians that maintain and repair wastewater infrastructure;
- Coordinating and planning schedules by prioritizing and planning projects;
- Implementing the performance standards for sanitary/storm water construction maintenance and repair of the City’s sanitary sewer system;
- Responsible for maintenance of equipment, machinery, or vehicles to ensure they are in good working order while observing established safety protocols and procedures for safe operation.
Considerable knowledge of supervising practices; maintenance procedures and practices; and maintenance equipment and tools. Knowledge of "Miss Utility" laws and rules, safety rules and regulations; OSHA laws and rules and City of Richmond rules and standards. Knowledge of traffic control; service repairs; fire alarms and sprinkler systems; grading leaks; American Water Works Association (AWWA) industry standards, if area of focus; Water Treatment and distribution systems, if area of focus; Wastewater Collections systems, if area of focus; mainlines, lateral, and manholes, if area of focus; and combined sewer infrastructure.
Demonstrated computer skills using programs such Microsoft Office Suite; electronic databases and related software applications or systems; completing forms; effective oral/written communication skills; customer service skills. Report writing and reading comprehension skills; drafting/drawing; recordkeeping; water pipeline repairs
operating valves and hydrants; leadership skills; and training.
Demonstrated ability to operate equipment and tools related to assignment; to establish goals and objectives; to organize and coordinate; and to problem-solve.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Four years of experience in the assigned area;
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record; or
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire
- Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License.
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years of supervisory experience in the Stormwater/Wastewater field
- 10 years of supervisory experience in the Utility/Construction field
- 3 years of Asset Management experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Due to the nature of work assignments, incumbents must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions and under time constraint. The essential duties of this classification may require the ability to regularly finger, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions; frequently walk; and occasionally stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, lift, grasp, and feel. The working conditions may contain environmental hazards. In terms of the physical strength to perform the essential duties, this classification is considered to be sedentary, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
