What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Specialist position at City of Richmond?
- Coordinates all building maintenance related issues through the Department of Public Works, contractors, vendors, etc.;
- Inspects areas of responsibility on a regular basis to locate problems or deterioration;
- Ensures RDSS facilities are maintained in proper working order, clean and safe;
- Inspects facilities, replaces light bulbs, installs equipment, etc.;
- Communicates with, Public Works, contractors, vendors, risk management, etc.
- regarding maintenance and safety issues and needs;
- Ensures timely and complete follow-up on work projects, maintenance tickets, etc.
- Performs assigned maintenance tasks and repairs;
- Troubleshoots and ensures preventive maintenance in area of responsibility;
- Prepares and submits reports regarding building maintenance/safety;
- Maintains records and work order files;
- Responds to routine and emergency calls regarding maintenance issues;
- Communicates status of maintenance repairs/building safety issues to management and staff
- Ensures risks to health safety and welfare are prevented through appropriate standard operating procedures;
- Attends staff meetings and gives briefings as required.
- Other duties, as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of various trades associated with building/plant maintenance and grounds maintenance. Specific knowledge of one or multiple trades such as painting, carpentry, masonry, HVAC, general building maintenance, or locksmithing.
Demonstrated skills in operating power tools, communicating with various internal and external departments, vendors, citizens and the general public, driving city vehicles to and from assigned locations and strong customer service.
Demonstrated ability to analyze information, exhibit dependability, problem solving and manage time effectively.
- High School Diploma or GED
- One year of college preferred
- Five years of experience directly related to assignment
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lift and move heavy objects of 50 lbs. or more on a routine basis; sort documents in alphabetical and/or numerical order in a rapid time frame;
- Operate a variety of motor vehicles;
- Provide quality customer service to a diverse public and internal customers;
- Working knowledge of general office computer software applications.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- A valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
- A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire
- Some assignments may require a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
