What are the responsibilities and job description for the Marina Dock Hand position at CITY OF SOUTH HAVEN?
Dock Hands at South Haven Marinas are responsible for customer service to boaters and minor general maintenance tasks, including but not limited to, docks and boat slip cleanliness and repairs, trash removal, and special projects as needed. Dock Hands will also be responsible for assisting boaters with the launch and tie off their vessels, loading and unloading equipment and supplies, delivering items to boaters, and performing a range of customer service duties in a safe, courteous, and professional manner. A "can do" attitude and desire to learn is essential for success in this role. Must commit to working an average of 10 hours a week.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in unloading supplies from marina truck
- Assist in restocking supplies in supply room
- Assist members with vessels while arriving/departing harbor
- Provide prompt and courteous customer service
- Participate in clean-up activities to ensure the facilities are kept clean at all times, including the Harbor office, docks, washrooms, tool and equipment storage room, and garbage receptacles
- Perform dock checklist duties
- Clean and maintain harbor boat, grounds vehicles, and equipment
- Monitor property for safety, cleanliness, and damage
- Assist boaters in loading and unloading belongings to and from boats
- Provides exceptional customer service.
- Make coffee, replenish coffee station with coffee supplies as needed.
- Retrieve bagged ice from ice freezer when purchased by boater
- May be required to cross-train as customer service staff
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED preferred. If a minor, must provide us with a work certificate from your school.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must have the ability to always display a friendly and professional demeanor. Must have reliable transportation available to get to/from work. Must be dependable, adaptable/flexible, and people oriented.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION
If over 18 years of age, may be required to drive a City vehicle. If required to drive a City vehicle, must have a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Hand tools, lawn mower, weed eater, pumps, water hoses, power washer, vacuum cleaner, marina truck, marine radio, others as necessary.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and smell.
- Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to stand or be physically active for extended periods of time
- Must be able to tolerate prolonged exposure to sunlight.
