The City’s Parks & Recreation Department is seeking a dedicated Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our Beautification Division. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the appearance, safety, and functionality of our parks and public spaces for the community to enjoy.

This position offers a consistent work schedule of 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of working stand-by hours as needed.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.- Maintains trees and plant life; trims plants and hedges; weeds plant beds; grinds stumps; prunes bushes; cuts and trims trees.
- Sprays herbicides and pesticides; plants trees, bushes, and flowers.
- Operates the riding mower, and smaller mowers, saws, edger, weed eater, blower and smaller power tools
- Removes weeds and debris from working areas, public lands, and other areas.
- Performs regular and routine maintenance, cleaning, repairing and servicing of equipment; reports major equipment problems to the assigned supervisor, and delivers equipment for repair.
- Works on a call-out basis in response to emergencies such as special events, natural disasters, leaks, equipment failures, and other urgency calls.
- Answers citizen and agency representative inquires; refers more complex questions to the assigned supervisor.
- Occasionally installs and repairs irrigation systems.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.Physical Requirements:

Mathematics:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
