Solid Waste Division – Public Works Department
The City’s Public Works Department is seeking a skilled and dependable Lead Driver/Collector to join our Solid Waste Division. This is a supervisory role ideal for an individual who takes pride in leadership, operational excellence, and public service.
The Lead Driver/Collector is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating solid waste collection and disposal operations; maintaining facilities and equipment; and performing related administrative duties. This position will have an assigned collection route and plays a key role in ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable service to the community.

This position typically works 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with rotating Saturdays. The role may also require night, weekend, and on-call rotations as operational needs arise.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.- Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
- Performs the work of subordinate staff, including the operation of collection vehicles and equipment.
- Identifies maintenance needs or deficiencies; conducts research and makes recommendations for changes to maintenance and repair programs.
- Inspects work in progress for compliance with policies and procedures, regulations, specifications, schedules, and standards of quality and safety.
- Performs regular and routine maintenance, cleaning, repairs and servicing of equipment; reports major equipment problems to the equipment maintenance supervisor and delivers equipment for repair.
- Responds to citizen questions regarding methods and limitations on collection.
- Prepares reports, as needed.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Must possess and maintain Transfer Station Operators certification or have the ability to obtain within 150 days of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license, Class B, with an acceptable driving history.Physical Requirements:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Mathematics:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Ability:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Reasoning:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
