JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing a variety of specialized maintenance and repair functions.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Leads Water Maintenance Repair Crew; serves as day-to-day crew leader.
- Mows and weeds City grounds.
- Removes tree limbs using the sidearm cutter.
- Cuts trees and limbs with chainsaw.
- Drives flatbed dump truck and/or small dump truck for hauling materials to and from job sites.
- Drives bucket trucks and heavy equipment.
- Runs loader to load and unload truck, to backfill, and remove dirt from job site.
- Serves as traffic control flagger to keep traffic flowing and places road work signs for safety; serves as pole man for surveying.
- Operates backhoe for pot hole repairs; repairs pot holes by filling asphalt; assists with manhole repairs.
- Inspects and maintains equipment; fuels trucks and equipment; washes trucks and equipment and lubricates as needed.
- Installs decorative lights for special event; sets up stages for special events.
- On call for after hour water/sewer issues.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

- Skill in operating various types of equipment.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Operations Superintendent assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include OSHA safety guidelines, EPD guidelines, vac-con guidelines, driver safety, safety truck operations, and OSHA guidelines. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of variety of equipment operation and maintenance duties.
- The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of specialized maintenance and repair functions. Success in this position contributes to efficient and effective operations of this department.

- Contacts are typically with supervisor, co-workers, and general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and provide services.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed typically while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally lifts heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and utilizes sense of smell.
- The work is performed in a noisy place or outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and grease, machinery with moving parts, and contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has functional supervision over assigned personnel within an area, department, or unit. Functional supervision typically involves the ability to assign, coordinate, and review quality and quantity of work of other employees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required; and
- More than two years of related experience required; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
- Possession of a valid state driver’s license issued for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or the ability to obtain a Class A CDL.
