What are the responsibilities and job description for the Computer Operator I or II position at City of St. Petersburg?
This is basic level technical work involving the operation, maintenance and support of the City’s enterprise computer network system and its peripheral components. Working hours will include varied independent support duties determined by an assigned schedule. Work takes place primarily in a Data Center environment and requires the incumbent to display a satisfactory level of independent initiative and sound judgment. Work involves the submission of applications processing and related programs, printing, and handling of various types of printed output, and report distribution and archiving. Work involves providing user-related assistance and troubleshooting via the Department of Technology Services Trouble Line, which is the primary telephone contact point for City employees with computer, telephone, or related problems. Duties most often involve continuous interaction with the City’s Active Directory User Authentication, WAN (Wide Area Network) and its associated processors, including the IBM iSeries systems and the Oracle eBusiness Suite. Normal work hours cover both day and evening shifts; and will include rotating participation in off-hours Standby Duty as the City’s primary point of contact for after-hours support.
Salary: $18.49 - $31.96 Hourly DOQ**

**The starting salary and selection into a Computer Operator position, at level I or level II, will depend upon qualifications and experience. The starting salary for the level II position is $21.01 hourly.
To QualifyMinimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Have some college level coursework or some technical training in data processing, information systems or a related field.
- Possess comprehensive oral and written communication skills.
- Be able to politely and effectively interact with other City employees as well as outside individuals via telephone, e-mail or personal contact.
- Be able to work effectively and efficiently under stressful conditions.
- Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.
- At the Operator II level, have significant experience and knowledge in data processing, information systems or a related field.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have completed at least one year of college level course work in data processing, information systems or related fields.
- Have some experience with computer business applications, including HTE & Oracle and in the operation of various system devices including laser printers, tape drives, mobile devices and other telecommunications-oriented equipment.
- Have varied experience in the operation of desktop computers, business applications and related devices, such as Microsoft Office Suite and applicable server-based applications.
- Have experience with Office 365, including Outlook and Teams.
