This position performs public contact work at City Recreation Centers involving cash handling, administrative support, and clerical accounting duties, including supervisory responsibilities in the absence of a Recreation Supervisor. Work is performed in accordance with established and defined polices, regulations, and procedures and involves varied file maintenance of moderate complexity; accurate completion of financial transactions for recreation and before/after school programs; intensive public contact, often of a confidential nature, requiring considerable discretion in determining the most effective approach to parent and child situations and dealing with delinquent customer accounts. An employee in this class works with considerable independence and initiative.
Salary: $17.74 - $26.18 Hourly

To Qualify
Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
- Within 90 days of employment, obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Within 12 months of appointment to the position, obtain the Pinellas County Licensing Board certifications for all Clock Courses, any other minimum qualifications required by outside Child Care agencies, and a Pinellas County Licensing Board SMIC (Staff Member in Charge) certification.
- Have some experience working with children and teens (grades K through 12).
- Have comprehensive oral and written communication skills.
- Successfully meet the State of Florida good moral character and Level II background screening standards (Florida State Statutes 435.01-435.06).
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Possess six (6) successfully completed semester hours in early childhood education, elementary education, recreation, or a related field.
- Have one (1) year responsible experience as a teller, cashier or bookkeeper handling and accounting for large sums of money.
- Have some supervisory experience.
- Have experience in public recreation work.
- Have some knowledge of ActiveNet software, money collection practices, and computer word processing and accounting software.
- Are able to make rapid and accurate mathematical calculations, understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions, successfully meet and converse with the public, use proper telephone etiquette, and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
The successful candidate must be either a resident of the City of St. Petersburg as of his or her date of employment, or establish primary residency within the city limits of St. Petersburg within six months of completing the probationary period. Furthermore, as long as the successful candidate is employed in this classification, he or she must reside within the city limits of St. Petersburg. This requirement is not applicable to current City employees who were hired before October 20, 1997.
