We are looking for an Animal Control Officer, some of the essential duties are listed below; along with minimum qualifications and experience.
- Patrol the city in a radio equipped vehicle, answer calls for service and the enforcement of city, county and state laws, look for stray animals, conduct both preliminary and follow up investigations on all animal related activities
- Enforce laws and ordinances involving Animal Control regulations; including issuing citations and testifying in city and municipal court hearings.
- Responsible for maintaining the website and database by updating animal information and photographs accurately
- Respond to complaints regarding Animal Control and properly follow procedures to alleviate the nuisance and issues safely
- Investigate and generate cruelty investigations by following proper procedure and legal actions, including seizures of animals, cruelty reports, municipal court hearings, etc.
- Euthanize animals humanely by following proper protocol and health requirements.
- Communicate with the public and other personnel on a daily basis in a professional and informative matter.
- Respond to after-hour emergency calls on a regular basis.
- Safely pursue and capture aggressive and dangerous animals by following procedure on a daily basis.
- Assist other departments with Animal Control issues.
- Enforce the safety of the public regarding Zoonosis Control (Rabies). This includes bite reports, quarantine, and decapitating possible rabid animals for laboratory testing.
- Write and maintain proper reports and compliance letters regarding Animal Control. File, organize, and distribute paperwork independently.
- Contributes to the overall success of the department by performing other essential duties as assigned
- Subject to 24- hour recall: The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime including during emergency situations (defined as any natural or man-made disaster that may or may not necessitate the relocation of City personnel or citizens). In the event of an emergency and/or a required evacuation, the incumbent may be required to remain at work to provide needed services or perform essential duties for the benefit of the general public including services or duties different from those performed in the normal course and scope of the position.Education, Experience and Training:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent, and two (2) years of related experience in assigned area of responsibility; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Animal Control Officer Certification
- Applicable Certifications for Euthanizing and Tranquilizing Animals
