The City of Tomball is accepting applications for the position of Director of Special Projects. This position will support executive employees in their roles by taking over their smaller responsibilities or handling other day-to-day items. Their duties include attending meetings on the executive leader's behalf and taking notes, leading, and implementing various strategic planning processes across the organization and providing leadership members with important confidential information to prepare them for upcoming meetings or presentations. Spearheads city management initiatives with the different departments and assists the departments to ensure implementation. Works directly with city management to conduct periodic quality control checks of processes to ensure consistency and effectiveness. Will assist city management with the daily operations and tasks by coordinating meetings and facilitating the gathering of data needed. Will serve as interim director or manager on an as needed basis.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. |
Education Bachelor's degree or higher required.
Experience Minimum of 5 years of related experience required, with high-level management experience preferred.
Certifications None
Licensing Possess and maintain a valid Class C Texas motor vehicle operator's license.

Director of Special Projects functions include but are not limited to the following.
- Lead and oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of assigned projects that are aligned with the City's goals and objectives.
- Provide department leaders with recommendations and consultation to improve teamwork, including assisting departments in documenting workflows, identifying inefficiencies in processes, and making recommendations for improvements.
- Coordinate with various departments, stakeholders, and external partners to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Establish and maintain reports to measure efficiency and measure achievement of goals and objectives, including determining key performance indicators and measuring progress.
- Provide tactical support to implement ideas, including assessing and mitigating risk, identifying and helping to solve core problems, and providing recommendations across the organization.
- Manage the City's strategic planning process, including overseeing and reporting and strategic initiatives, monitoring and communicating progress toward goals, and working with leadership to assign resources to support project implementation.
- Coordinate with the City Manager's Office regarding projects, attend meetings as the City Manager's representative, and report on meetings.
- Respond to inquiries on behalf of the City Manager.
- Provide City Manager and other senior leaders with insight and analysis
- Assist in preparing reports (regulatory and non-regulatory), specifications, presentations, and other complex high-level or executive level documents.
- Assist in preparation of departmental Council agenda items including, but not limited to, ordinances, resolutions, bid awards, contracts, presentations, etc.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in project management. Integrate innovative approaches to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.

Hiring range - $91,270 - $95,834 ($43.88 - $46.07)
