BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of maintenance or yard work which contributes to the daily tasks, upkeep, care and maintenance of facilities, and transfer station. This is accomplished by maintaining the appearance and safety of the grounds, repairing streets, directing transfer station traffic, and maintaining the safe and efficient operation of equipment. Other duties include assisting other departments, setting up areas for special events, and completing related duties as assigned.

# Code Essential Functions
1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice.
2 M Maintains the appearance and safety of the building and grounds by mowing the grass to its proper height, trimming and edging around the walks, flower beds, walls, buildings, or specified areas, removing leaves and debris, pruning shrubs and trees, watering the lawns, trees, shrubs, and flower beds; and planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
3 H Repairs and maintains streets by sweeping streets, removing litter and debris, washing areas, assisting with street cuts, repairing potholes, pouring asphalt, and compacting areas filled.
4 M Maintains the safe and efficient operation of equipment by sharpening blades, completing basic maintenance such as oiling parts, and repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts.
5 H Searches for and removes unwanted materials from transfer station areas and disposes of items which could include tires, batteries or hazardous materials.
6 H Assists departments with special tasks or setting up and tearing down of equipment and materials at special events.

Physical Demands Light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis; or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Equipment Usage Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment requiring brief instruction or experience such as hand and power tools, buffers, floor polishers, vacuum sweepers, outdoor hand-held power equipment, small mowers, commercial kitchen equipment, computers for data entry, fax, complex copiers, phone systems, and other similar equipment, services office machines including such actions as adding paper and changing toner.
Unavoidable Hazards Works outdoors in very hot or very cold conditions or indoors in areas where cold or hot conditions are generated such as a cold storage room or boiler room; or works outdoors in wet or humid conditions or indoors in areas where wet or humid conditions are generated such as kitchen dish washing machine area or food processing area.
Safety of Others Responsible for safety and health of others and for occasional enforcement of the laws and standards of public health and safety.
