SUBSTITUTE - TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT (BUS AIDE)
Job Title: Substitute Transportation Assistant (Bus Aide) Reports to: Transportation Supervisor FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED;
- Must be able to work patiently with special needs students;
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties;
- Must be able to pass physical, including drug test;
- Fingerprint background check is required;
- Must pass a criminal background check that meets required state, federal, and Clarkston School District standards;
- Must have, or be able to obtain, current valid CPR/First aid certificate
- Safe Schools Training is REQUIRED, and needs to be completed BEFORE start date
Job Description:
- Assist bus driver in providing safe transportation for students
- Review daily schedule and make adjustments
- Operate lift for wheelchairs
- Escort students to designated seating
- Help students secure seatbelts
- Secure tie-downs for wheelchairs
- Escort students to classroom and/or wait for classroom assistant
- Ensure students safely enter and exit bus
- Communicate with classroom assistant and/or teacher/parents
- Maintain bus cleanliness and safety by keeping floors dry and clear of objects
- Maintain appropriate student behavior while on bus
- Enforce the use of seatbelts
- Report the health issues of each student
- Assist with personal hygiene
- Other duties as assigned by Transportation Supervisor
