POSITION: Recreation Area Specialist

Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to participate in the operation and maintenance of CCWA recreation areas, lakes, rental buildings and the Wetlands Center, including deer hunts and related special events.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Monitors maintenance staff and evaluates quality of work at recreation areas and Wetlands Center and community rental buildings.
Assists with deer hunts in the fall and winter months: maintains deer hunt records; processes and issues deer hunting permits, lottery selection and notification; and monitors deer hunting activities.
Performs maintenance and repairs at the reservoir areas, wetlands facility, rental buildings and grounds.
Performs maintenance and repairs to landscape equipment as needed.
Assists in the preparation of reports of public attendance and income from fees against operational costs: and compiles data information for deer management reports including harvest totals, deer age, weight, and sex, location of deer harvested and related data.
Explains and enforces rules and regulations at the recreational areas: interacts with the public concerning the recreational areas.
Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures.
Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments.
Communicates with supervisor, other CCWA employees, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in wildlife or natural resources management, recreation or landscaping; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all CCWA or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and prolonged standing, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of heavy weight (50-100 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
