The School District of Clayton is seeking an Alternative Instructional Support Assistant for Clayton High School. Successful candidates will be academically talented, use a variety of teaching strategies, and exhibit sensitivity for all students.
An Alternative Instructional Support Assistant continues the educational program established by the classroom teacher, providing a safe and appropriate environment for the continuity of the educational experience for students who are serving detention or in-school suspension.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Alternative Instructional Support Assistant supports students with behavior and elevated emotions.
REPORTS TO: Principal
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Reprimands students who violate school rules.
- Assists students in understanding the consequences of their behaviors.
- Assists students with understanding and regulating their emotions.
- Assists students with rehabilitating behaviors that are not conducive to the school community.
- Assists with other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS – Required qualifications to effectively perform job. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Some college is required.
- At least 1 year of experience is required.
- Substitute teaching license is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job.
- Requires strong critical thinking skills.
- Requires general understanding of core educational concepts.
- Requires some knowledge of social work.
- Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.

- Required to occasionally move objects weighing up to 10 pounds around the workspace.
- Required to visually obtain information from computer monitor, correspondence, reports, or legal documents.
- Required to operate standard office equipment.
Education: A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required.
Certification: Missouri Teaching Certificate preferred. Missouri Substitute Certificate required.
Experience: Preferred.
Compensation: $20.09 - $28.12

Work Calendar: 188 day calendar.
