Maintenance Tech 1
Performs routine and scheduled preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment. Assists in routine inspections of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) building systems and equipment. Works individually and in teams with other trades employees, outside vendors and Cleveland State University (CSU) employees. Maintains and communicates accurate records of maintenance activities and parts inventory. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Maintenance Tech 2
Performs complex preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) building systems and equipment. Utilizes advanced diagnostics skills and tools to conduct detailed inspections. Manages emergency repairs across all mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) building systems. Ensures MEP building systems operate efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Maintenance Tech 1
- High school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.
- Experience in general maintenance, construction, or related field, may include vocational training.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. If lifting is over fifty (50) pounds, ability to buddy lift or use of tools to aid in lifting.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and various arial lifts in excess of twenty-five (25) feet.
- Ability to work second shift, weekends, and on call-hours as required.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to establish and maintain driver eligibility under CSU Driving and Motor Vehicle Policy.
Maintenance Tech 2
- High school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.
- Three (3) years of experience in general maintenance, construction, or related field e.g. HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Asbestos Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Certification, Confined Space Certification, and Fall Protection Certification or ability to obtain certifications within one (1) year of hire.
- Maintenance or repair experience working in a commercial, industrial, institutional, or large-scale facility.
- Ability to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. If lifting is over fifty (50) pounds, the ability to buddy lift or use of tools to aid in lifting.
- Ability to climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, and various arial lifts in excess of twenty-five (25) feet.
- Ability to work weekends, and on call-hours as required.

Preferred Qualifications
Maintenance Tech 1
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) or other workplace safety certifications.
- Maintenance or repair experience in an institutional or industrial environment.
Maintenance Tech 2
- Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) or other workplace safety certifications.
- Technical certification or training in mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) building system maintenance e.g. HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management systems (EMS).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Maintenance Tech 1
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC building systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as an individual contributor and an effective team member.
- Ability to be dependable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.
- Ability to use appropriate hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment safely and effectively.
- Proficient in use of digital and mobile (i.e. phone or tablet) maintenance work order systems, email, and messaging.
Maintenance Tech 2
- Advanced proficiency in building infrastructure and mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) building system maintenance e.g. HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Ability to achieve and maintain highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex problems, and the experience to implement effective solutions quickly.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as an individual contributor and an effective team member.
- Ability to be dependable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled.
- Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.
