What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker I - Water Reclamation Facility position at Cobb County Government?

This position is vital to the daily operations of the Water System as it performs unskilled and semi-skilled manual work with the maintenance and upkeep at the Water Reclamation Facility. The position also performs various tasks involving building maintenance projects, cleans buildings, restrooms, or other facilities; mops, sweeps, strips, waxes and buffs floor surfaces, and pressure-washes building surfaces and concrete areas, may include tasks involving maintenance and upkeep in outdoor areas of a water reclamation facility. 

Follows established safety procedures: utilizes safety equipment and wears protective gear; monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; reports any incidents, accidents, problems, or unusual situations.

Performs various tasks involving building maintenance projects: cleans buildings, restrooms, or other facilities; mops, sweeps, strips, waxes, and buffs floor surfaces; replaces batteries, light bulbs, and ballasts; paints interior and exterior surfaces and equipment; pressure-washes building surfaces and concrete areas.

Assists in setting up special events and activities; installs, erects, or hangs holiday decorations; assists with traffic control during event; assists with cleanup after events.

Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with department projects, which may include hand tools, measuring instruments, or two-way radio.

Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking and replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, performing minor equipment repairs, washing and cleaning equipment, or cleaning shop or work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.

Gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies needed to conduct work activities: ensures availability of adequate parts and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement materials as required. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, checklists, work orders, service tickets, vehicle and equipment maintenance records, or other documents.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred; previous work experience involving equipment operation or construction and maintenance work preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Sensory Requirements

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to such adverse environmental conditions as high pressure gas & water lines, insects, poisonous plants, animals, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, traffic hazards, toxic agents, electric currents, disease, raw sewage, blood, or pathogenic substances.
