Job Location:    College of the Muscogee Nation - Okmulgee, OK
Salary Range:    Undisclosed

General duties and responsibilities

Under the direction of the Dean of Academic Affairs, the Instructor in Gaming is responsible for teaching college level classes, contributing to the development of curriculum in their field of expertise, working with the Academic Dean for course design, syllabi, and lesson plan development.  Instructors are expected to follow College of the Muscogee Nation and Regents’ board level policy.  A full time instructor is expected to teach 12 to 15 hours, or 4 to 5 courses each semester, with teaching loads adjusted for service responsibilities and class size.  Instructor must be able to teach on the College of the Muscogee Nation sites in Okmulgee and other locations as necessary.  The instructor will be the academic adviser for their degree field, and will be expected to meet with advisees periodically throughout each semester and maintain appropriate records pertaining to their advisees.  The instructor must be comfortable in multicultural and Native American classroom settings.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The provisions of the following Instructor duties include, but are not limited to:

 

  1. Teach a minimum of 4 courses a semester.
  2. Develop new courses directed toward the degree programs of the College of the Muscogee Nation.
  3. Meet with advisees to develop degree plans and monitor their academic progress through out each semester.
  4. Maintain a working relationship with the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Casinos management for advisement on program development and training for educational practices.
  5. Promote program growth with regular onsite casino visits for recruitment.
  6. Be available to students by holding publicly posted office hours.
  7. Provide services as requested by the department and college.
  8. Assist with the accreditation processes.
  9. Be actively engaged in the assessment of student learning.

 

Functions

  1. Follow the policies and procedures of the College of the Muscogee Nation and its Board of Regents.
  2. Contribute to the development of courses and curriculum in their field.
  3. Teach a minimum of 12 hours, but no more than 15 hours.
  4. Design courses, syllabi, and lesson plans for each course being taught.
  5. On unusual matters concerning program objectives and policy, must obtain guidance before taking action.
  6. Must observe diligence with all academic deadlines such as (but not limited to) new-course submission deadlines and grade submission.
  7. Instructors must be open to periodic evaluations including classroom observations by senior academic affairs officers.
  8. Must be a willing collaborator with instructors in other fields.
  9. Able to work with Student Success Center and Learning Center as part of a team to protect the retention of the student.
  10. Willing to teach, or learn to teach, through distance education.
  11. Serve on College committees.
  12. Remain current in your field through professional development and periodical subscriptions.
  13. Annual leave must be taken during breaks between trimesters and should not be taken during trimesters when classes are being held.  Also, prior to and after the trimester, faculty must be available to start or complete their instructional responsibilities.

Qualifications


Job specifications:

  1. Minimum Requirements – An earned Masters degree from an accredited institution with teaching experience and substantial course work at the graduate level (18 graduate credits) in discipline.  Demonstrated knowledge of the tribal gaming industry.   Minimum of 18 graduate level course work in the discipline they teach in general education.

 

  1. Preferred Requirements – Terminal degree and evidence of college teaching and advising.  Exemplary oral communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

 

3.  Special Considerations – Administrative experience within tribal gaming.  Ability to speak the Muscogee Creek language is preferable but not a requirement.  Native American preference.

 

Licensure (If appropriate):

Valid driver’s license.  Teaching certificate helpful, but not mandatory.
