Work Unit | Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories
Faculty and staff at the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (VDL) are among the nation’s finest in their fields of expertise and offer comprehensive diagnostic services. The mission of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) is to provide timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory will strive to meet the goals the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the University through research to develop new approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate, and post-doctoral students. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory processes over 120,000 accessions per year. The laboratory performs approximately 1,400 necropsies on a variety of domestic and exotic animals each year and evaluates over 30,000 histopathological slides for animal owners, veterinarians, and researchers.

Position Summary
It is the mission of the Colorado State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories (CSU VDL) to provide timely, accurate and pertinent animal disease diagnostic services and educational outreach to veterinarians, animal industries and animal interests. The CSU VDL will strive to meet the goal of the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences and the University through research to develop novel approaches to disease identification, investigation, prevention and through education of professional veterinary medical, graduate, and post-doctoral students.

- Appropriate decision making to complete projects on time
- Delivering on project goals
- Developing optimal methodology to facilitate collection, recording, management and analysis of data.
- Develop and employ communication strategies to engage project stakeholders.
- Establishing timelines and due dates in accordance with stakeholders and successfully accomplish all tasks by those due dates.
- Decision making on best analytical processes for application for both qualitative and quantitative project assessment.
Position Minimum Qualifications
- DVM (or equivalent)
- A minimum ten years of experience managing veterinary laboratory and/or government programs and projects.

This position will be responsible for completion of projects for the CSU VDL. This could include, but is not limited to, projects related to the following:
- Improved client services
- Laboratory biosafety
- Laboratory Information Management Systems
- Laboratory operations
- Client expansion and client relationship building
- General business operations
This position will be required to oversee and execute all facets of assigned projects for successful completion of the endeavor including:
- Interpersonal relationship building with employees and stakeholders
- Strong data management skills to collect and organize qualitative and quantitative data
- Strong abilities in objective assessments and critical thinking to characterize areas for improvement
- Exceptional professional writing skills to facilitate formal communications and draft final reports for distribution
- Oral presentation skills to share information
