POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing all phases of building custodial work. The purpose of this position is to clean county buildings at an acceptable standard of attractiveness, and utility. Errors may result in unsightly work which could create an unpleasant environment for employees, general public and a poor image for the county.
Work is performed inside county buildings and outdoors where employee is occasionally exposed to cold or inclement weather. Employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery which have moving parts. Employee must wear protective devices such as masks or gloves.
Work is performed with employee intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending or crouching. Employee must lift both light and heavy objects frequently, climb ladders, possess a high degree of manual dexterity.
Guidelines include written and verbal instructions on areas to be cleaned and directions on how to clean them.
Contacts are typically with co-workers, supervisors and County employees.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the class of vehicle or equipment operated.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Cleans all County restrooms in assigned buildings to include, but not limited to, restocking of paper products, cleaning toilets, urinals, sinks, partitions, walls, fixtures and floors.
- Cleans all common and public areas in assigned County buildings to include, but not limited to, the cleaning of floors and rugs by sweeping, moping or vacuuming, dusting, cleaning light fixtures, HVAC grills, blinds, counters and sinks.
- Cleans all conference rooms in assigned buildings to include, but not limited to, sweeping, vacuuming, or mopping floors, cleaning light fixtures, HVAC grills, tables, chairs, walls and blinds.
- Respond to custodial issues as assigned
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and standards used in custodial work
- Skill in using mops, brooms, vacuums, and other related cleaning tools.
- Skill in oral communication.
- Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
