POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible for opening and closing the Collection Center on the authorized days of operation and is responsible for assisting Foreman with monitoring recycling container capacities.
The incumbent directs and instructs customers on various recycling services and policies and physically assists customers with unloading recyclable materials and sorting items as necessary.
Required to wear gloves on a daily basis and other appropriate safety equipment and eyewear (glasses, hardhat and safety vests) when applicable, following general rules and Standard Operating Procedures, identifying and reporting problems at the Collection Center to the Foreman and performing repairs as instructed, maintaining a reliable attendance record and performing other related duties as assigned.
Must have the ability to communicate with the general public, industry and government officials in a positive, cooperative and professional manner and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
Must have the ability to lift 30 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds with pallet jack or cart. Must have the ability to work primarily outdoors with exposure to dust and pollen; subject to a variety of extreme weather conditions; may be exposed to noise, fumes, and odors.
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Prior forklift, compactor, recycling or collection experience and knowledge of basic safety precautions desired. A valid driver’s license required.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABITLITIES
- Prepares Bills of Laden for haulers and loading trucks.
- Prepares daily and quarterly reports and reviews them for accuracy.
- Ensures equipment is cleaned as needed and used properly and in the appropriate manner.
- Answers customer questions and returns phone calls.
- Separates and sorts recyclable materials and ensures customers do not leave unacceptable and/or non-recyclable items.
- Utilizes cash register, accepting payments for required fees, operates stationary baling equipment, scale system, forklift and pallet jack, controlling traffic flow into and out of facility.
- Prepares and maintains monthly volume records and reviews them for accuracy.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, organized, and safe office, baling building, electronics storage, glass shed and surrounding area.
- Removes any debris from the site.
- Travels to other recycling facilities as needed to assist team members
- Utilizes appropriate safety equipment and procedures.

DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Prior forklift, compactor, recycling or collection experience and knowledge of basic safety precautions desired. A valid driver’s license required. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.
