The Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Branch Program is responsible for processing permit applications, reporting documents, and fees for various types of waste management and disposal facilities. The regulatory requirements for each type of facility vary depending on the waste.

By joining the Division of Waste Management, Solid Waste Branch, Permit Section as an Environmental Engineer II in Franklin County, you will have the opportunity to perform engineering work in the application review and inspection of solid and special waste landfills to determine compliance with environmental engineering standards, laws, and regulations.

EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors . http://kyboels.ky.gov/. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in an office setting. Travel throughout the state may be required.

Holders of the Environmental Engineer II position will complete tasks such as:
- Conducts engineering technical reviews of solid and special waste landfill applications using engineering principles and best practices to determine compliance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
- Performs landfill construction inspections, including subgrade proof-rolls, clay and synthetic liner, and leachate collection system inspections.
- Reviews liner, cap, and other engineering features construction progress reports (CPR). Determines if CPRs are in compliance with approved plans, specifications, and regulations.
- Provides technical assistance to other department staff, owners and operators, citizens, consultants, other governmental agencies, and others.
- Attention to detail and decision-making skills
- Experience in reviewing technical plans for solid and special waste landfills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills

Salary : $6,442 - $6,979
