DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, your responsibilities will include conducting standardized laboratory tests and field work for plant disease surveys and plant certification programs. The role consists of approximately 60% laboratory work and 40% field and greenhouse work. You will be involved in conducting field and lab work related to Fruit Tree Improvement Program and in plant disease surveys in Pennsylvania, focusing on economically important diseases, both domestic and exotic. Additionally, you will utilize geographic information system (GIS) tools for site selection, surveys, and data collection.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 1 day a month. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Traveling is required to collect samples for certification work.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • One year of experience as a Laboratory Assistant; or
  • One year of technical laboratory experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
