DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In the role of Maintenance Repairman 1, you will be responsible for assisting with the planting and covering of seeds in nursery beds, as well as operating and maintaining the nursery's irrigation system. Your duties will include operating lawn mowers and string trimmers to maintain the nursery grounds and satellite orchard locations, along with using backpack sprayers for pesticide application under the guidance of a licensed applicator. You will also participate in the packing and shipping of seedlings, operate pack tying machines during packaging, and perform routine maintenance on equipment such as mowers, rototillers, chainsaws, and brush cutters. Additional responsibilities involve collecting and transporting pine needles for nursery use, weeding nursery beds, supporting fertilizer applications on seedling beds and seed orchards while keeping accurate treatment records, and assisting with potting seedlings, ensuring the greenhouse and shade-house are well-maintained.
You will be tasked with maintaining nursery fences and gates, aiding in the lifting, transportation, packing, and shipping of seedlings, as well as loading, unloading, and organizing seedling tubs for transport to cold storage. Furthermore, you will install or adjust shade frames and shading cloth in nursery beds, in addition to constructing and repairing shade frames. Maintenance tasks such as roofing, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work on nursery grounds and satellite sites will also be part of your responsibilities, requiring you to interpret blueprints, schematics, maps, and diagrams for various building and maintenance projects. Lastly, you will be expected to clean designated areas, including the lunchroom, restrooms, and counting room.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Seasonal full-time employment without benefits. The season runs from approximately March until November at which time the employee is placed on leave without pay.
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of experience in general maintenance work which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades ; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
