What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Forester (Forester) (Permanent) - Rothrock Forest District, Huntingdon County position at Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?
As a Service Forester in Huntingdon County, you will provide essential support to the District Forester through the facilitation of rural and community forestry programs. Specialized duties will entail meeting with private forest landowners and local county and municipal governments to offer technical assistance and manage Bureau of Forestry and Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) programs aimed at maintaining the health of Pennsylvania’s private forests. You will also function as a liaison with the general public and stewardship clients to respond to inquiries related to private land forestry.
Within this role, you will participate in timber management functions by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data, and performing duties to plan, implement, and administer state forest timber sale contracts in order to achieve annual harvest allocation goals. This forester also engages in regeneration projects, educational programs and exhibits, and wildfire suppression and prevention activities.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Travel and overtime may be required for trainings, meetings, and emergency response.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Huntingdon.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of technical forestry experience, and an associate’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
- A bachelor’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree; or
- A master’s degree in forest technology, forestry, forest management, forest ecosystem management, urban forestry, forest science, agroforestry, or a related forestry degree.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirements:
- You must possess a valid PA non- commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
Other Requirements:
- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
