1 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Determine, plan, develop and modify complex fabrication processes and methodology to produce prototype and complex electro-mechanical units and assemblies. Assemble complete electro-mechanical units consisting of chassis, power assemblies, frames and related units performing required welding, drilling, riveting, cleaning, de-burring and the like.
Coordinate with limited supervision, fabrication work group activities to ensure proper development of products from the prototype to the production stage, utilizing latest available equipment and techniques. Set up and operate punch presses, NC punch presses, etc. to perform a variety of fabrication operations.
2. WORKING PROCEDURE: The following are the usual major job duties but this job description does not preclude the performance of other duties by the incumbent.
Obtain all necessary information to perform job assignment and report any discrepancies to MD&F/engineering personnel.
Independently, identify and resolve problems associated with materials, processes and methodology.
Determine from limited information the operational sequences, machines, processes, setups, etc. required to fabricate units and assemblies.
Under limited supervision, plan, layout and modify prototype and complex sheet metal and non-laser welding operations and a wide variety of interrelated parts, improvising holding fixtures and setups to fabricate, weld and assemble complete electro-mechanical units.
Set up and operate all N.C. sheet metal production equipment and robotic welding production equipment to perform required welding/fabrication processes. Load programs and determine proper setups. Enter appropriate commands to activate and step through and determine proper setups. Enter appropriate commands to activate and step through test run. Observe machine operations to verify correct setup and override taped operations and enter keyboard codes to change operating procedures to compensate for required variances.
Extract part dimensions from engineering models to fully understand required tasks.
Determine the need for and fabricate templates and similar tooling to perform required fabrication operations.
Periodically check work for dimension and quality and advise MD&F/engineering personnel of any erratic machine behavior. Make necessary adjustments to maintain dimensions and quality.
Work with manufacturing/engineering personnel in the development and modification of fabrication processes and techniques. Coordinate fabrication work group activities to ensure proper development of products from the prototype to production stage.
Set up and operate required non-laser welding equipment, planning sequence of welds, location of tacks, running of beads, etc.
Clean and de-burr "sticks" and other assemblies in accordance with drawing, procedure and routing.
Set up magnetic flux detection equipment per instruction setting required controls to detect defects in various materials and component parts. Grind material to remove defects.
Work closely with Manufacturing/Engineering personnel within CMF to develop, modify and perform Vacuum Brazing, Heat Treat, and Flow & Pressure Test processes. Assemble, braze, solder and silver solder and clean complex assemblies, where parallelism and perpendicularity must be held to close tolerances and standard tooling is not provided. Torch braze and/or repair assemblies.as required.
Work closely with other personnel and attend company-sponsored training courses to obtain the necessary knowledge and skills for career path development.
Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
