Job Overview
The Dietary Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the nutritional needs of residents in healthcare facilities. This position is responsible for managing the dietary department, ensuring that all meals meet the health and dietary requirements of patients. The Dietary Manager will work closely with healthcare professionals to assess patient needs and develop appropriate care plans, while also supervising staff to maintain high standards of service and compliance with health regulations.
Duties
- Conduct patient assessments to determine individual dietary needs and preferences.
- Develop and implement nutrition care plans in collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Manage the daily operations of the dietary department, including meal preparation and service.
- Supervise dietary staff, providing training and leadership to ensure a cohesive team environment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain cleanliness in food preparation areas.
- Oversee tube feeding procedures for patients requiring specialized nutritional support.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance patient care through effective communication and teamwork.
- Monitor inventory levels of food supplies and manage ordering processes as needed.
Skills
- Must possess, as a minimum, a high school diploma or GED.
- Must graduate from an accredited course in dietetic training approved by the American Dietetic Association.
- Must possess Food Service Sanitation (serve safe) certification.
- Culinary or Hospitality Degree preferred.
- CDM certification preferred.
- Must have, as a minimum three (3) years experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital, nursing care facility, Long Term Care and/or Rehabilitation facility, or other related medical facility.
- Must have training in cost control, food management, diet therapy, etc.
- Strong knowledge of dietetics and physiology related to patient nutrition.
- Proven leadership abilities to effectively manage a team within the dietary department.
- Proficiency in developing care plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to assess patient conditions accurately and make informed decisions regarding dietary adjustments.
- Familiarity with tube feeding techniques and protocols is a plus.
