The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager specializes in all aspects of environmental compliance at the fossil fueled power plant and oversees implementation and management of environmental regulatory and permit requirements as well as compliance documentation obligations. Provides industrial safety support for a fossil fueled power plant. Facilitates implementation of CAMS safety program by establishing and maintaining accountability for industrial health and safety performance and program administration. Provides oversight and maintenance of Environmental, Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, Municipal and local laws and regulations and Corporate Policies. This includes all required Safety and Environmental training, site Safety visits and self-assessments.

 

New Haven Harbor Station is a 453 MW, #6 fuel oil and natural gas fueled facility consisting of one conventional steam unit in New Haven, CT. New Haven Peaking is a 144MW, ULSK and natural gas fueled facility consisting of three LM6000 simple cycle combustion turbines co-located on the property of New Haven Harbor Station.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

 

  • Performs oversight and compliance for the implementation of all necessary federal and state environmental permit requirements, including development and preparation of reports to Federal and State, Municipal and local regulatory agencies and implementing procedures, guidance and aids to facilitate compliance.
  • Provides technical guidance and administrative support to ensure compliance with Federal and State, Municipal and local regulations that pertain to employee and contractor health and safety. Develop and maintain safety and health programs in compliance with federal, state, municipal and local regulations.
  • Develop, implement and complete improvement plans to support initiatives to reach top performance in safety and environmental fields.
  • Participate in accident/incident investigations, EH&S quarterly audits, regulatory inspections, and other components of the Environmental, Health and Safety System. Conduct incident investigations.
  • Develop, prepare and maintain records of reports to Federal, State and local regulatory agencies. 
  • Must be able to work varying hours to support station evolutions.
  • Coordinates air quality testing as required (e.g., 5-year stack testing, annual RATA) with station, contractor, and regulatory agencies (CTDEEP and EPA).
  • Experience with Method 9 (or 22) opacity readings.
  • Oversee stormwater and wastewater sampling program.
  • Coordinate annual respiratory fit & hearing testing.
  • Manage contractors and vendors related to regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct or manage the training of all personnel in EHS responsibilities.
  • This position will require approximately 10% travel
