Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, including health and safety policies aligned with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Assist the SQE Director in compiling data for safety team meetings and management reviews.
• Draft and update Safety Management System (SMS) procedures, forms, and related documentation.
• Coordinate the company's drug testing program for random, post-incident, and reasonable cause testing.
• Manage the Safety Incentive Program to promote safety awareness and engagement.
• Review, track, and analyze claims, casualty reports, injury reports, near-miss incidents, and non-conformance reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Support scheduling and participation in internal and external safety inspections and audits.
• Assist with incident investigations by analyzing accidents and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
• Maintain accurate safety records, monitor safety metrics, and support onboarding and training for new personnel.
• Collaborate with management and staff to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Stay current on safety regulations and industry standards to ensure ongoing legal and operational compliance.
• Support the close-out of audit findings and non-conformities, ensuring timely resolution.
  
  

Requirements

• US Citizenship.
• Degree from a Maritime Academy or equivalent maritime-related education.
• Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of marine shipping industry legislation and safety standards.
• Physical ability to embark/disembark large, high freeboard vessels via pilot ladder and/or gangway.
• Strong interest in maritime safety regulations and procedures, with some maritime experience preferred.

• Previous experience in safety coordination or maritime operations.
• Familiarity with safety management systems and incident investigation processes.
• Additional certifications related to maritime safety or health and safety.
