Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs, including health and safety policies aligned with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist the SQE Director in compiling data for safety team meetings and management reviews.
- Draft and update Safety Management System (SMS) procedures, forms, and related documentation.
- Coordinate the company's drug testing program for random, post-incident, and reasonable cause testing.
- Manage the Safety Incentive Program to promote safety awareness and engagement.
- Review, track, and analyze claims, casualty reports, injury reports, near-miss incidents, and non-conformance reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Support scheduling and participation in internal and external safety inspections and audits.
- Assist with incident investigations by analyzing accidents and near misses to determine root causes and recommend preventive measures.
- Maintain accurate safety records, monitor safety metrics, and support onboarding and training for new personnel.
- Collaborate with management and staff to promote a proactive safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Stay current on safety regulations and industry standards to ensure ongoing legal and operational compliance.
- Support the close-out of audit findings and non-conformities, ensuring timely resolution.
- US Citizenship.
- Degree from a Maritime Academy or equivalent maritime-related education.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of marine shipping industry legislation and safety standards.
- Physical ability to embark/disembark large, high freeboard vessels via pilot ladder and/or gangway.
- Strong interest in maritime safety regulations and procedures, with some maritime experience preferred.
- Previous experience in safety coordination or maritime operations.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and incident investigation processes.
- Additional certifications related to maritime safety or health and safety.
