Marine Safety Coordinator Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Marine Safety Coordinator to oversee the safety operations of our vessels.
The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and improvement of safety objectives at the Company. They will monitor and verify the conformance of vessel operations with all company policies and the documented management system.
They will identify any potential deviations and provide guidance and support for the effective implementation of corrective actions on board the vessels.
Marine Safety Coordinator Responsibilities
- Oversee and coordinate compliance with applicable environmental, security and safety requirements for all vessels.
- Ensure the Company’s Safety Management System is effectively implemented, understood, maintained and continuously improved.
- Develop and draft new SMS procedures, forms and other documentation as required.
- Oversee and manage the Fleet’s Streamlined Inspection Program (SIP) and coordinate changes, inspections, audits and compliance between vessels and USCG Marine Safety Units.
- Support Operations, Technical, and Chartering Departments with Safety related matters.
- Act as resource to vessel Master’s and Deck Officer’s for marine technical matters relating to Safety, Fire Fighting, Navigation and Voyage Planning, Communications, and Emergency Response.
- Develop programs as required to ensure that employees (offshore and shoreside) receive the necessary safety, security, environmental protection and emergency response training.
- Conduct regular audits of vessels and facilities to ensure compliance with regulations, procedures, and company policies regarding safety and environmental protection.
- Assist with incident investigations, the close-out of non-conformities and other audit findings.
- Review claims, Casualty Reports, Injury Reports, Near Miss Reports and Non-Conformance Reports.
- Oversee and manage the Fleet’s drug testing program. Directly coordinate random, post-incident, and reasonable cause testing.
Marine Safety Coordinator Position Requirements
- Degree from a Maritime Academy
- USCG License with Great Lakes Pilotage
- TWIC
- Proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of marine shipping industry legislation and industry standards
- Able to embark / disembark large, high freeboard vessels via a pilot ladder and / or gangway
