Position Overview
The teacher at Cornerstone Classical School supports the school’s mission by collaborating with families to provide a classical Christian education in a Christ-centered community, to develop leaders and disciple students for a lifetime of wisdom and virtue, for the glory of God. All instruction is grounded in the truth that every subject reveals the character and glory of God. Teachers affirm that all of creation glorifies God and that academic disciplines are tools for understanding His truth. They teach all disciplines as expressions of God’s design—created for His glory and our good—and approach instruction with the conviction that truth, beauty, and goodness are foundational to a meaningful education
Key Responsibilities
1. Classroom Instruction
Implement classical Christian pedagogy, integrating a biblical worldview, virtue formation, and love of learning across all subjects.
Prepare thoroughly and deliver clear, well-organized, and engaging lessons that reflect mastery of content.
Use creative instructional aids, methods, and materials to engage students spiritually, intellectually, physically, socially, and emotionally.
Evaluate student understanding through written work, discussions, projects, and presentations, adjusting instruction as needed to support growth.
Promote academic rigor with joyful learning, encouraging excellence through gentle correction and consistent expectations.
Foster a respectful, orderly, and positive classroom culture that models Christian virtue and dignified discipline.
Monitor student dress code and address violations with discretion, consistency, and in accordance with school policy.
Demonstrate initiative in identifying and addressing student learning needs with discernment and professional judgment.
2. Preparation and Planning
Spend approximately 2–3 hours weekly reviewing lessons, gathering materials, and preparing for class. Ensure all supplies, handouts, and equipment are fully prepared in advance.
Teachers are to arrive on campus with plenty of time prior to the start of scheduled class to meet the objectives of the day. They are expected to remain on campus after class until the job requirements are met.
Maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered classroom and comply with host requirements to clean classroom and store supplies at the end of campus day.
Demonstrate flexibility and preparedness for unforeseen changes or adjustments to instruction.
Prepare detailed substitute plans including rosters, lesson details, and special student considerations.
3. Student Progress & Communication
Provide timely, thoughtful, and constructive feedback on student work and enter grades into Orbital (or designated system) within one week.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, academic performance, behavior, and progress reports according to school deadlines.
Partner with parents by communicating regularly and respectfully about their child’s academic progress, character formation, and behavior. Honor the God-given responsibility parents hold for their child’s education by fostering collaboration, encouragement, and shared responsibility.
Maintain respectful, humble communication with leadership, keeping the Headmaster informed of ongoing concerns and partnering to uphold school policies and procedures.
Administer student assessments and recommend appropriate placement or additional support based on student performance. Submit assessments to the Headmaster for review and collaboration with academic leadership on final placement decisions.
4. Campus and Community Involvement
Fulfill daily campus life responsibilities as assigned, including supervision, drop-off and pick-up.
Participate fully in faculty meetings, professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and school functions that take place during regular school hours.
Collaborate with academic leadership, department chairs, and faculty to support instructional alignment and continuous improvement.
Contribute to a Christ-centered, collegial school culture by promoting unity, professionalism, and mutual encouragement.
Support the broader life of Cornerstone Classical School by attending extracurricular activities and school events when possible.
Perform other duties as assigned by the administration.
5. Spiritual and Professional Development
Live and model a mature, growing, and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ.
Pray regularly for Cornerstone Classical School and specifically the students in your care.
Affirm the school’s Statement of Faith and uphold biblical truth in all aspects of teaching and personal conduct.
Demonstrate humility, integrity, kindness, emotional maturity, perseverance, and Christlike leadership in relationships with students, families, and staff.
Fully engage in weekly professional development sessions, faculty training, conferences, and growth opportunities.
Remain teachable, receiving feedback with humility and applying it to improve instruction and leadership.
Consistently pursue mastery in subject knowledge, classical pedagogy, biblical integration, and virtue formation.
Follow the Matthew 18 principle for conflict resolution; avoid gossip and divisive communication.
Protect confidentiality and exercise discretion at all times.
Represent the school and its mission with professionalism and Christ-honoring character both on and off campus.
Maintain current CPR/First Aid certification and knowledge of emergency procedures.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Family Handbook and Employee Handbook by upholding all policies and procedures outlined within them.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the school’s mission and daily operations.
Qualifications
Has received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior; affirms the Bible as the authority for faith and life; and is in full agreement with Cornerstone Classical School’s Statements on Faith, Life, and Conduct.
Actively growing in faith and modeling Christian character through personal devotion, church involvement, humility, integrity, and a sincere love for Christ, children, and learning.
Demonstrates a clear commitment to classical Christian education and the mission of forming students in wisdom and virtue.
Exhibits a collaborative, warm, and professional demeanor with a heart for community and representing the school with Christlike maturity.
Bachelor’s degree preferred, ideally in education, classical studies, or a related field.
3–5 years of teaching experience preferred; classical Christian school experience strongly valued.
Familiarity with classical education principles, including classical pedagogy, biblical worldview integration, and virtue formation in the classroom.
Proficient in school management systems and technology as required for classroom and administrative responsibilities.
