 Position Summary: The Intensive Supervision Officer (ISO) is a full-time, hourly position working within the 16th Judicial District. This position is responsible for providing case management and supervision to adult convicted felons sentenced to Santa Fe Trail Community Corrections by the District Court.

Essential Function Statement(s)

  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must pass law enforcement background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Possess a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
  • Ensure all standards defined by the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) and Ford County/SFTCC policies and procedures are maintained.
  • Monitor client compliance with conditions of supervision, additional court orders, and progress in a variety of community programs.
  • Thoroughly document client behavior and collateral contacts made with service providers, employers, family members and other professionals into the KDOC case management database within the prescribed timeframes.
  • Maintain individual file on each client ensuring all legal documents, reports, social documents, chronological and statistical reports, etc. are present and updated.
  • Participate in court hearings, prepare court reports, make recommendations and present information to the Judge, County Attorney, and defense attorney.
  • Must provide effective, credible testimony in court when called upon.
  • Effectively work with a network of family, employers and community resources.
  • Conduct drug/alcohol screenings on clients through urinalysis and/or breathalyzer testing.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings to effectively problem solve caseload issues.
  • Obtain a minimal of forty (40) training hours per year as per standard.

 MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

  • Duties are performed independently under general guidance from the Deputy Director of Adult Services. Must be proactive to staff, offender and public safety issues. This will require some work after hours and on weekends
  • Other related duties as necessary or required.

  • Problem Solving- Ability to define problems and deal with a variety of situations. Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations. Ability to use good judgment and effectively solve problems.

 SKILLS & ABILITIES

Experience:  Experience in coordinating rehabilitative resources and services. Knowledge of law enforcement, judicial system, community corrections programs and community based services.

Education:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university is preferred.  Suggested majors are criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or related field. 

Skills: Bilingual in English-Spanish helpful but not required. Typing and computer literacy with Microsoft Office is essential. Valid Kansas Driver’s License and reliable transportation.  Ability to operate a copy machine, calculator, computer and other related office machines. The ability to receive, interpret and follow oral and/or written communication as well as possess organizational skills.  Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, county officials, and the public.

Problem Solving: Problem solving exists in this position.  Duties follow prescribed policies and procedures and law.

Decision Making:  Decision-making exists in this position. 

Accountability:  Employee is responsible for budgetary control of the department resources but does not participate in the annual budget process.

Supervision:  Employee does not have supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.

Personal Relations:  Frequent contact with other KDOC employees/departments, county departments, the criminal element and the general public requiring ability to communicate and relate in a professional and effective manner.

Working Conditions:  Position is at some risk due to working in law enforcement. Weather is usually not a factor.

Requirements: Valid Kansas Driver’s License and reliable transportation.  Must pass drug screen and law enforcement background check. Must be qualified for access to any Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) data. Must maintain risk/needs assessment certifications.
